DECEMBER 2001 ISSUE

=================== UPDATES ==================

A major commitment this month has been getting ready to kick off a new venture to help women connect with each other to share opportunities and resources.

Please take a look and give me some feedback. We are currently looking for women who would like to act as Guides and start their own local Soar Circle.

I will be co-leading a 10-week module on a communication instrument with Corporate Coach University beginning January 7th.

I received a request to link to my web site presentation on First Impressions from the Western Australian Government Department of Training.

This month I will be going for a long weekend to visit dear friends in Washington D.C. I am looking forward to my vacation. I wish you all a wonderful season – however, you choose to celebrate.

COMPLACENCY

This is the last newsletter for this year. Can you believe that we are two years into the millennium? The world is a little bit different and a little bit the same. I was wondering how I have changed in the past 24 months and you know, I haven’t. The good news is that I don’t waste my time hitting my head against a brick wall as much as I use to do. The bad news is that I have allowed my self to be lulled by my complacency.

When in the guise of respectability and sensibility did I loose the edge?

When did trusting the process become going with the flow?

One of the roles that I have chosen for myself, unconsciously I might add, is that of devil’s advocate. It has not been a popular road to follow. Hence my experience with brick walls. That being said, I do believe firmly that in order to make good choices we have to be able to see all of sides of an issue. To have judgment, we must have perspective. To do what is right for us, we must understand what is right for others.

As a coach, it is my role to help my clients see all of the possibilities and opportunities before then. The best way that I can do this is to help them shift from their current perspective by creating another picture or as we often call it, a reframe.

It isn’t so much about gaining perspective as it is about understanding consequences. Perspective opens ones eyes to possibilities and I hope tolerance. Seeing consequences of those new perspectives creates action. We choose the road to follow whether by choice or by default. Usually, it isn’t about choosing a path that is less traveled. It is about actively choosing a path and going forward.

Every era has its time when we are called upon to be courageous. Ours is now. It is imperative for us to look deep within ourselves and to challenge our assumptions, our personal interests and ourselves. It is not a time to be reasonable. We live among men who are unreasonable – on all sides. I ask you and myself, how willing are we to go beyond our own limitations?

My wish for you this season, is that you find what you really want for yourself and those you love. My hope is that each one of us will then act upon that dream.

Anyone can become angry -- that is easy. But to be angry with the right person, to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose, and in the right way -- this is not easy.
~ Aristotle

All is perspective. To a worm, digging in the ground is more relaxing than going fishing.
~ Clyde Abel

All our knowledge has its origins in our perceptions.
~ Leonardo da Vinci
