MARCH 2002 ISSUE
===================
UPDATES ==================
Well, I certainly hit the New Year running full out.
I have two modules that I am leading with Corporate Coach University
and three more lined up for the spring. It is great, but I am
spending quite a bit of time preparing.
This month, I did a couple of True Colors Workshops as part of
retreats and have another lined up for April. I really enjoy
going in and doing a half-day of this sort of fun team building and
then facilitating a planning session the following day. Please
keep me in mind when you know of someone looking for this type of
service.
People seem to be moving out of the inertia of post September 11th.
I am getting a lot more calls from individuals who what to consider or
start coaching. This is very encouraging.
My new venture, SOAR Circles is looking great. Our next
teleconference for Guides is Feb. 12th. If you know of a woman
who is looking for a non-traditional network of support please send
them to: http://www.soarcircles.com

OPTIMISM
I was feeling pretty optimistic coming into the New Year and it
seems I was correct in my beliefs. It is in keeping with my
personal challenge for 2002 as discussed in last month's newsletter.
I was revisiting this topic based on a discussion with a client and
did a search on the web. I came across a quiz directly related
to the work of Martin E. P. Seligman, Ph.D in his book Learned
Optimism. You might be interested in taking it. It can
be found at:

Well it was quite an enlightening experience. I have always
considered myself to be pretty optimistic. Yes, perhaps a
little skeptical at times, but as someone once said: A cynic
is only a disillusioned optimist. So what were my results?
Well to be sure, I am positively optimistic about negative events.
That means, I do not believe that they will last or that it is due
to something I did or to my bad luck. On the other hand, I am
neutral that good things happen because I created them or that if
things are going well that they will continue to occur. When
it comes to good things, it appears that I believe the world is more
arbitrary. Interesting! It seems that The Protestant
Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism (Weber?) lives well within me.
Now, it would take me far too long to go into depth about this but
needless to say it has thrown me into some self-reflection. I
feel that there is some learning for me to do in this area of my
life. It excites me to know that I can influence how I choose
to look at things and optimism can be learned.
In coaching, we are taught about the Law of Attraction. Thomas
Leonard has developed 28 Principles of Attraction. Attraction
is a skill set that you can develop which will attract the best
people, ideas and opportunities to you. I leave you with a few of
these as you consider your own attitudes both positive and negative
to the events that happen in your own lives.
Attraction Principle #2
Unhook yourself from the future.
Make more decisions based on your intuitive read of today, not
projections.
Attraction Principle #4
Build Reserves In All Areas.
Attraction Principle #8
Become Attractive To Yourself.
Eliminate what isn't attractive to you that you are, do or have.
Attraction Principle #13
Get Your Personal Needs Met.
Attraction Principle #27
Have a Vision.

QUOTES ====================
Like the elephant, we are unconscious of our own strength. When
it comes to understanding the power we have to make a difference in
our own lives, we might as well be asleep. If you want to make your
dreams come true, wake up. Wake up to your own strength. Wake
up to the role you play in your own destiny. Wake up to the power
you have to choose what you think, do, and say.
~ Keith Ellis
Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an
understanding about ourselves.
~ Carl Jung
The only person who I can truly manage is myself. If I manage
myself well, then those around me will do just fine.
~ Ron Short
