CLOSING THE DEAL

I know all about marketing. I know exactly what I am suppose to do if I am trying to sell something. I think that I am a good presenter and I certainly have a solid network. In fact, later next month I am going to make a presentation on how to build a network.

So, what is my problem? I just don’t close the deal. I don’t close the deal for two reasons. One, I tend not to follow-up with potential clients and two, I almost never ask for the contract.

In the past, I have been very successful relying on my networks to refer me to others. But to be honest, I am feeling a little guilty. Hence, another one of my problems. I have this limiting belief, that it is not appropriate to ask others for something for myself. Or maybe they will think less of me. Don’t ask me why I would even contemplate these thoughts, because I know that intellectually it is crazy.

When it comes to making the sale, I hesitate and start to sound unsure of myself. Then I begin to second-guess myself and my anxiety goes up. Who would want to hire me? This from a person who has at times been accused of being too direct, over confident and possibly arrogant.

My coach says that I tend to give away too much. I am not sure that I agree. I think that I only give to others where I have good relationships and believe that there exists equality. I also believe that what I give out will come back to me three fold – whether it is good or bad.

You may be reading this and saying, yes, I too have similar issues but what is the solution. Unfortunately, I don’t have any simple answers. Ask and you shall receive is perhaps the best advice. After reading the quotes for the month, here goes.

For months I have been telling you that I have made the decision to move my practice into coaching. What do I do? I work with you to embrace the future and expand your capacity to take effective action. I will partner with you as you acquire both the knowledge and wisdom to achieve your goals.

Here is my request. Next time you talk to someone who you think could benefit from coaching, how about thinking of me and giving him or her my name? Oh, and if you still aren’t sure what coaching is and what it can do for you or others, check out my site. It is on the bottom of everything you ever receive from me.

Now before the panic sets in, I will email this off to my editor for her input.  Audrey, am I being too bold? (She says that we should all learn to do this and that it is only a request not a command.)

~ Gloria Steinem

It was high counsel that I once heard given to a young person, "Always do what you are afraid to do."

What you have to do and the way you have to do it is incredibly simple. Whether you are willing to do it, that's another matter.
~ Peter F. Drucker

================ TECHNICAL TIP ===============

DEFRAGMENT

One of my top ten tips recommends that you regularly defragment your hard drive. Many people don’t do this because it often freezes or restarts before finishing. Here is the solution to the problems you might be experiencing. Make sure to turn off and close any applications or programs that are working in the background. The one that often causes the most difficulty is the screensaver. Finally, start your defragementing at the end of the day when you don’t need to be working on the computer.
